Need a hand with Quartz? Email us at babono@me.com and we'll get back to you as soon as we can. It helps if you include your iOS version and what you were doing when the problem happened.
Quartz requires iOS 17 or later.
The shield isn't blocking my apps
Quartz blocks apps through Apple's Screen Time (Family Controls) framework, and that needs your permission to work. Check both of these:
- Open Settings → Screen Time and confirm Screen Time is switched on for your device.
- Open Quartz and make sure it still has Screen Time access. If access was never granted or was later revoked, the shield cannot be applied.
Also confirm the app you expected to be blocked is actually in your selection. Quartz only shields the apps and categories you picked — anything outside that list stays open.
My apps are still blocked even though I have quota left
The shield lifts when you open the app through Quartz and spend quota. Opening a shielded app directly will show the shield first; choose Open App & Use Quota to spend from your remaining balance.
My quota didn't reset
Your quota resets once per day. Quartz performs that reset when the day rolls over — either at midnight or the next time you open the app after midnight. If you have not opened Quartz in a while, open it once and the day will settle.
I lost all my Quartz
The most likely cause is Emergency Unpause. It lifts the shields for the rest of the day, but it sets your Quartz balance to zero as the trade-off, and because the rest of that day is no longer monitored, the day does not count toward your streak. This is deliberate, and the balance cannot be restored.
My streak reset
A day only counts toward your streak if monitoring was active for it and no day in between was skipped. Turning monitoring off, using Emergency Unpause, or leaving a gap of one or more days will break the streak. Changing difficulty mode also resets it.
The leaderboard is empty or out of date
The leaderboard lives in Apple's iCloud. Make sure you are signed in to iCloud on your device and have a working connection, then reopen Quartz. Entries sync in the background, so a new balance can take a moment to appear for other people.
How do I delete my account and my data?
You can do this yourself from inside the app, in Profile → Delete Account. It removes your leaderboard entry and the data associated with your account. If you would rather we did it, email babono@me.com.
Your Screen Time data — which apps you limit and how long you use them — never leaves your device in the first place, so there is nothing on our side to delete.
