Terms of Service

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the Quartz iOS app (the “App” or “Service”), operated by the Quartz team (“Quartz,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). By downloading, accessing, or using Quartz, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use Quartz. The App is intended for personal, self-managed digital-wellbeing use. By using it, you confirm that you meet this age requirement and that the information you provide is accurate.

2. Your Account

Quartz uses Sign in with Apple for authentication. You are responsible for maintaining the security of the Apple ID associated with your account and for all activity that occurs under it.

3. The Service

Quartz is a digital-wellbeing app that helps you reduce excessive screen time. It uses Apple’s Screen Time (Family Controls) features to let you set a daily “doomscroll” quota and shield selected apps once that quota is exhausted. It also includes focus sessions, “Attention Gym” mini-games, daily streaks, a virtual reward currency, and leaderboards. We may add, change, or remove features at any time.

4. App Shielding — Important Disclaimer

Quartz relies on Apple’s Family Controls and Screen Time frameworks to limit and shield apps. These controls are provided by Apple and are not guaranteed to be foolproof. You can disable monitoring, grant yourself an “emergency unpause,” or turn off Screen Time permissions at any time. Quartz is a self-improvement aid — it is not a security, parental-control, or safety-critical product, and you should not rely on it to prevent access to any app in situations where doing so is critical. You remain solely responsible for your own device usage.

5. Virtual Currency and Rewards

Quartz includes a virtual in-app currency (“Quartz,” also referred to in-app as Prismas) and related rewards, vouchers, and quota that you earn through use of the App.

  • This virtual currency and these rewards have no real-world monetary value, are not redeemable for cash, and cannot be purchased with real money.
  • They are licensed to you for use within the App only, are non-transferable, and have no value outside the App.
  • We may adjust, expire, reset, or remove virtual currency, balances, streaks, rewards, or the underlying economy at any time, including to fix bugs or prevent abuse.

6. Leaderboards and Public Content

If you participate in the leaderboard, your display name, avatar, Quartz balance, and streak are publicly visible to other users. You are responsible for the content you choose as your display name and avatar. You agree not to use names or images that are unlawful, offensive, infringing, impersonating, or that contain private information you do not wish to share. We may remove or reset any display name or avatar that violates these Terms.

7. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the App for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms
  • Cheat, exploit bugs, automate, tamper with timekeeping, or otherwise manipulate streaks, quotas, the leaderboard, or the virtual economy
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code, except where permitted by law
  • Interfere with, disrupt, or place undue load on the App or Apple’s services
  • Upload content that infringes the rights of others or violates any law

8. Intellectual Property

The App, including its design, graphics, text, games, and the “Quartz” name and branding, is owned by the Quartz team and protected by intellectual-property laws. We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App for its intended purpose. You retain ownership of content you create (such as your avatar), and you grant us a license to store and display it as needed to operate the features you use (for example, the leaderboard).

9. Third-Party Services

Quartz relies on Apple services, including Sign in with Apple and iCloud/CloudKit. Your use of those services is also governed by Apple’s terms and policies. We are not responsible for the availability or performance of third-party services.

10. Disclaimer of Warranties

The App is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure. Quartz supports general digital wellbeing and is not medical, psychological, or professional advice. If you have concerns about technology use or mental health, consult a qualified professional.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Quartz team will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, progress, virtual currency, or goodwill, arising from or related to your use of the App. Our total liability for any claim relating to the App will not exceed the amount you paid us for the App (which, for a free app, is zero).

12. Termination

You may stop using the App and delete your account at any time from within the App. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or misuse the Service. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including intellectual property, disclaimers, and limitation of liability) will continue to apply.

13. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will revise the “Last updated” date above, and significant changes may be communicated in the App. Your continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

14. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Indonesia, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts located in Indonesia, to the extent permitted by applicable law.
